Pittsburgh Public Security Two minors were killed in the early hours of Sunday after shots were fired at a large party at an Airbnb rental in Pittsburgh, according to city police. At least eight others are being treated for gunshot wounds and other injuries. Police said they were called around 12:30 p.m. at a party at home attended by up to 200 people, several of them minors. “50 bullets were fired inside, forcing some party attendees to jump out of windows, causing injuries such as broken bones and injuries. Several other shots were heard outside the house,” police told blotter. Many young people left the area on foot and in vehicles. Based on preliminary data, officials believe that there were many shooters, said Police Chief Scott Schubert in an afternoon press conference. Schubert said that after a fight, gunshots were fired in and out of the house, possibly back and forth. The department is processing data into up to eight separate crime scenes, he said. No arrests have been reported so far and no immediate suspects have been identified. The names of the two boys who died were not immediately known. One was just 14 years old, Schubert said. An initial police report said nine people had been injured in the shooting, but Schubert said he did not know the number. Airbnb said it had contacted the city police department and the mayor’s office to assist with the investigation. The visitor who made a reservation for the registration has been issued a life ban from the platform and the company is “considering all legal options” to make the person responsible. “Airbnb strictly prohibits parties and we condemn the conduct that allegedly led to this criminal armed violence,” Airbnb spokesman Ben Bright said in an email. He added that it was an unauthorized party, which took place without the knowledge or consent of the host. Airbnb and other short-term rental platforms have struggled with so-called parties, where users rent an listing to host only one party. Airbnb banned party houses and released several security features in 2019, after five people were killed in shootings at one of its bookings. However, due to the way these companies operate, they can not always prevent parties. Guests can sometimes check into remote accommodation while the owner is away and can invite as many people as they want. Subscribe to CNBC on YouTube.
