Emergency crews were called to the scene on Moorefield Street, just off Franklin Avenue, around 6 a.m. Saturday. Officials say an e-bike hit a tree on an off-road trail at the end of the road. The driver of the dirt bike, a 20-year-old from Cambridge, was pronounced dead at the scene. Researchers say no drugs or alcohol are involved. Police have not been able to confirm whether similar incidents have occurred in the area in the past, but have asked the public to be careful when handling a motor vehicle or bicycle on public or private paths. “Be aware of your environment,” said the sergeant. Scott Griffiths with Waterloo District Police. “Wear all available and required safety equipment and keep your eyes and ears open. Sometimes we ride our bikes, or do anything, and we do not know our environment. That’s why we ask people to know this, to know where you are going. “ The path reopened after the crash. Police say it is often used by a wide range of people, including pedestrians, cyclists and people who drive motor vehicles, such as dirt bikes. The investigation into the causes of Saturday’s crash is ongoing.
