1 of 32 The transactions. Each year, the first round involves a handful. The draft as a whole includes dozens. Now, not every team will make an exchange. Some are stroking the whole design. Others do like Monty Hall so often that it is difficult to watch. Some transactions simply involve options. Others include players. But fans of every club enjoy thinking about what deals their team can make over the weekend in the draft. This is what we are here to do. Using the trading value chart created in the 1990s by Jimmy Johnson and modernized over the years, this piece contains a potential deal for any NFL team. Some are overproductions. Others are much more modest. Most of these will not happen. But it’s all reasonable enough for GM on the other end of the phone not to laugh out loud and hang up. OKAY. Most of them would not. 2 of 32 Texans receive: QB Kyler Murray It could also start things off with a bang. In an offseason full of deals and drama like we’ve never seen before, Arizona’s Kyler Murray is the latest soap opera. Murray is said to be adamant not to play for the Redbirds in 2022 without a new contract. After a disastrous exit from the playoffs last year and with two years left in his rookie deal, the Cardinals do not seem in a hurry to give him one. This impasse has begun to ignite commercial rumors. And of all the league teams, Houston is in the best position to play for Murray — thanks to the plentiful selection the Browns just sent for Deson Watson. Consider this: Even if the Texans give Arizona all that is said in this fairly large amount above, Houston would still have the 13th overall pick and two options in Day 2 this year, a first round next year and two firsts. in 2024. If a Murray deal is a real possibility, Houston could easily make the best offer – and drop a general in Davis Mills. The Cardinals can try again in the fourth with the third option or swap back a few positions, add options and get a QB. 3 of 32 The Lions receive: 2022 second round selection (No. 43 in total), 2022 second round selection (No. 58 in total) The Atlanta Falcons are touted as a potential landmark for a Kyler Murray trade, but instead of gaining Atlanta’s initial capital for the next several years, we will go with something less dramatic here. With the eighth overall selection, the Falcons were selected in more than one virtual draft to add a quarter to this point. But Falcons need more than that. Aside from Kyle Pitts, the Falcons have the weakest concentration of offensive firepower in the NFL. Running back. Wide receiver. Say it, Atlanta needs it. Now, the Falcons could wait in a class of deep receivers and see what happens to them with their two second players. But one could argue that the team should be more aggressive in this regard and attack the board with an upward move that could beat Atlanta Iowa State running behind Breece Hall or Penn State. with width Jahan Dotson. Or Atlanta could catch a receiver at No. 8 and hope that a QB will slip into the back of the round. Either way, the Falcons gain one more thing by going to the back of Round 1: a fifth year option for the player being played at this point. The Lions (a team with an exhausted roster) win two selections in the top 60, if there is no player at No. 32 who is of interest to them. There is not much difference in 2022 between player No. 30 and No. 60. What is missing from the category in talent, fills it in depth. 4 of 32 The giants receive: 2022 first round selection (No. 14 in total), 2022 second round selection (No. 45 in total) This potential trade contains a warning: a top-3 edge-rusher is available at No. 7, which would require Kayvon Thibodeaux to be more of the player they called the No. 1 overall prospect a year ago and less cloudy perspective that has slipped down sinking boards. Or Georgia’s Travon Walker to dive a little deeper than most expect. We’ve already seen the Ravens try (and fail) to land Za’Darius Smith with free agents. And when Thibodeaux is at play, the 6’5 “, 258 pounder is a versatile design that ruins the game. For the Giants, it’s a continuation of a theme found in this piece – to raise draft capital while staying within the top 15 of the draft. Assuming the Ravens themselves are candidates, the rise to meet a need is worth the cost. 5 of 32 The Lions receive: 2022 first round selection (No. 25 in total) Bill enters the 2022 draft in an enviable position – there are not many holes in the roster. This makes the Bills a prime contender to be one of those competing teams returning on Day 1 in an effort to add more options. This does not mean that the bills do not have holes. The depth to the wide receiver behind Stefon Diggs and Gabriel Davis is an issue. Like most teams, the Bills could use assist with pass rush, offensive line and side. The point is that the drop in talent in these positions from Option 25 to Option 34 is relatively negligible. Prospects such as Texas A&M guard Kenyon Green, George Pickens, Georgia wide receiver and Tennessee Alontae Turner could be readily available. The Bills should not go through a guy they love at No. 25. But they should also not feel compelled to grab a player at this point if a team wants to return / advance to Round 1. 6 of 32 The Niners receive: 2023 second round selection, 2024 second round selection The Carolina Panthers have been trying to make up for the position of general for years. Last year’s deal for Sam Darnold is the reason the Panthers will take part in Day 2 of this year’s draft. This is also the reason why some people will no doubt turn a blind eye to the idea that the Panthers will be back on the veteran road instead of getting a rookie at No. 6 Universal. But Jimmy Garoppolo is a different player than Darnold or Teddy Bridgewater. Say whatever you want about Garoppolo, but he led the 49ers to a place in the Super Bowl and gave them a game away from a second trip in three years last season. This deal for Garoppolo gives the Niners the pair of second-round options the team reportedly already had on the table (an ex-post deal they should have accepted). It takes the Panthers a capable, proven veteran key center. And it opens the door for Carolina to give this sixth overall choice to a team that is in love with one of this year ‘s rookies and to regain some of the capital it has spent in recent years in the process. 7 of 32 Texans receive: RB David Montgomery, fifth round selection 2022 (No. 148 in total) The Bears face a difficult decision in 2022. David Montgomery has become a capable back in the NFL. In 2020, he overshadowed 1,000 yards and caught 54 passes. But Montgomery is also heading into contract year, and a team of Bears he is rebuilding is not going to want to pay Montgomery the annual salary he is likely to look for in a new contract. Now, the franchise label in 2023 is a possibility. But the Bears could also look to move Montgomery to a draft win in a year when the team does not have many. Chicago is back in the roster of second-year professional Khalil Herbert, who answered the bell in 2021 and could be ready for an expanded role. A pair of options early in Round 4 may not seem like a very good return for Montgomery, and the Bears may be able to do so in a third round. But running back is not a valuable place in today’s NFL. With that said, given that Rex Burkhead was Houston’s top rider last year, a team of Texans with plenty of options could be open to step up their game on the ground to put some pressure on anyone who opens the season below the center. 8 of 32 The bears receive: first round selection 2022 (No. 31 in total) The Cincinnati Bengals are in uncharted waters in 2022. This is a team that is used to choosing much closer to the front end of the first round than the back. The Bengalis may not choose at all in Round 1 this year. This does not mean that the Bengalis should definitely exchange at the end of the first round. They do not exist at all in an exercise like this. If a player falls to the 31st position that Cincy’s office adores, then the team should grab him with a smile. But if there is no player available to really do the Cincinnati gear, you can bet on rent that there will be a team that would love to go to the back of the first round and grab a guy with a fifth year option. Be it the Bears, the Jets, the Chiefs or the Giants, there are plenty of clubs with all sorts of draft Day 2 capital that could offer the Bengals the opportunity to pick up options in the top 75 – and add depth to a roster that does not they have many shiny holes. The Seahawks receive: QB Baker Mayfield Right now, Browns fans are flocking to Twitter to shoot messages that call me stupid because I claim all the Browns can get for Baker Mayfield at this point is one day …
