A press release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service says the 17-year-old suspect fled the area after the incident and was arrested on Albert Street West early this morning. The full text of the announcement is as follows: On August 4, 2022, Patrol Services officers charged a 17-year-old youth with aggravated assault. The youth’s name cannot be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Around 11:30 PM on August 3, 2022, the defendant was in the back seat of a vehicle with the victim known to the defendant. An argument ensued between the two and [it is alleged that] the defendant stabbed the victim in the forearm, causing a non-life threatening injury. The accused fled the area. Police were alerted to the incident around 1am. on August 4, 2022. The subsequent investigation led officers to attend a residence in the 300 block of Albert Street West. Officers observed the accused in the area. the defendant attempted to flee the area on foot but was quickly apprehended by officers and arrested. The defendant is charged with: • Aggravated assault • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose • Disturbance under $5,000 • Failure to comply with release order – curfew conditions • Failure to comply with release order – no weapons possession The accused was remanded in custody pending a bail hearing.
