One man was killed and two others were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries Saturday afternoon after a shooting at South Surrey Athletic Park, according to Surrey RCMP.

Police responded to reports of shots fired in the 14600-block of 20th Ave. of Surrey at approximately 2:45 p.m., where he found three men who had been shot. Officers provided life-saving measures until emergency medical services arrived. One of the men died at the scene despite the efforts of police and EHS, while the other two were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. RCMP cordoned off the scene and called in the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT). The initial investigation suggests this was a targeted incident, according to Surrey RCMP, who say there is no concern for public safety at this time. Police are asking anyone with dashcam video from the area or anyone with more information who has not already spoken to police to contact the IHIT tip line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at [email protected] rcmp-grc .gc.ca.

The incident follows a string of shootings — some targeted — across Metro Vancouver over the past two months: • On July 25, Jordan Daniel Goggin, 28, of Surrey went on a nearly six-hour shooting spree and shot four people at various locations in Langley Township and Langley Township, killing two people and injuring two others. Goggin died shortly after the fourth shot when RCMP officers shot and killed him. Meninder Dhaliwal, 27 years old. Dhaliwal’s older brother Harb was shot to death in Coal Harbor on April 17, 2021. • On July 14, controversial figure Ripudaman Singh Malik, who was acquitted in 2005 of murder and conspiracy charges in the 1985 Air India bombing, was shot to death as he sat in his car outside his office in the 8200-block of 128th Street in Surrey. Two men, Tanner Fox, 21, and Jose Lopez, 23, have been charged with first-degree murder in the case.
