The video shows police using tear gas and stun grenades to disperse a crowd, some wearing masks, who police say threw stones and fireworks at them. At least 117 Palestinians have been injured, according to the Palestinian Red Crescent Emergency Service. Image: Clashes erupt after morning prayer Image: Police say they did not enter the mosque itself Thousands of worshipers gathered at the mosque, two weeks after the month of Ramadan, with high tensions following a series of terrorist attacks. Israeli police entered the area shortly after the first morning prayers, said the Islamic legacy that manages the area. He said a guard was shot in the eye with a rubber bullet. Image: Israeli police say there were “hundreds of protesters who rose up” The Israeli Foreign Ministry said dozens of masked men carrying Palestinian and Hamas flags marched on the compound. “Police were forced to enter the area to disperse the crowd and remove stones and rocks in order to prevent further violence,” he said on Twitter. Israeli police said there were “hundreds of protesters who were constantly throwing stones and fireworks at police deployed in the area.” Image: Doctors remove an injured Palestinian. Photo: AP Image: Israel says it was forced to act after throwing stones in the direction of the Western Wall, a Jewish holy site He said at least three officers had been injured and had been forced to act after rocks began to be thrown at the Western Wall, a nearby Jewish shrine. Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum described the violence as “violent attacks by Israeli occupation forces on worshipers at the Al-Aqsa mosque”. The Palestinians see any major police deployment in Al-Aqsa as a major challenge. The mosque is the third holiest site in Islam and is built on top of a hill which is the holiest site for the Jews, who refer to it as the Temple Mount. It has been a major hotbed of violence between Israelis and Palestinians for decades. Clashes there last year helped spark an 11-day war with militants in the Gaza Strip. Easter, Ramadan and Easter coincide this year and millions of Jews, Muslims and Christians are expected within the walls of the city of Jerusalem in the coming days. By the end of March and the beginning of April, Israel had suffered one of the worst waves of attacks in years. In four separate incidents, 14 Israelis were killed and dozens injured. Sky News Middle East correspondent Alistair Bankal said the recent attacks were carried out by a mix of Palestinians, Arab-Israelis and Bedouins. Israel has carried out a series of arrests and operations in the occupied West Bank, sparking clashes with Palestinians. The Palestinian Ministry of Health said a 17-year-old died on Friday from injuries sustained in the West Bank city of Jenin the previous day. At least 25 Palestinians have been killed in the recent wave of violence – many have carried out attacks or taken part in riots – as well as an unarmed woman and a lawyer who appears to have been killed by mistake.
