In a tweet Friday afternoon, Schweitzer announced that he had tendered his resignation to Premier Jason Kenney from the cabinet. He also said that he will continue to serve as MLA till the end of the month or some other date fixed closer to that time. “It was an honor to serve alongside the Prime Minister and my colleagues. I believe people will look back on the last six to 12 months as the economic turning point for Alberta,” Schweitzer said in a statement. Schweitzer previously said in May that he would not seek re-election next year.
