In his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman says the new HomePod is still on the way and emphasizes that the smart speaker remains “at the heart of Apple’s approach” to the home. That’s what Tim Twerdhal, Apple’s vice president of home product marketing, described in an interview with MobileSyrup last May. Gurman first reported rumors of this combined device late last year, saying the camera would be used to make video calls on TV, similar to Microsoft’s unfortunate 2nd generation Kinect for the Xbox One. From that initial rumor, this is the first time we hear that the project is still in progress. It is unclear when Apple will introduce the HomePod / Apple TV hybrid device. Apple discontinued its largest HomePod in March 2021 in favor of the smaller HomePod mini released in 2020. Apple is probably aiming for this new HomePod idea to be the real successor to the original version of the smart speaker. Source: Bloomberg
