Mark Gurman reports that Apple has begun “extensive internal testing” of several Macs equipped with the M2. Developer logs note that Apple is testing nine new Macs with four different M2 chips with third-party applications in the App Store. Testing these Macs does not necessarily mean that every model will reach the market, but the move shows that the decision on when these Macs will be released is close. Gurman notes that the Macs tested include the entry-level MacBook Air, Mac mini and MacBook Pro, all running M2 chips with an a8-core CPU and a 10-core GPU. Also being tested are a Mac mini and MacBook Pro with M2 Pro chips, as well as 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with M2 Max chips with 12-core CPU and 38-core GPU and 64 GB RAM. Gurman did not specify the M2 Pro, but will likely have the same 12-core CPU as the M1 Max and a 20- or 22-core GPU. Gurman also points out that Apple is testing a Mac Pro with a “successor to the M1 Ultra” and a long-awaited Mac mini with an M1 Pro and an M1 Max — but Gurman warns that the tiny desktop may be considered “unnecessary” by Apple . . Apple already sells an M1 Mac mini and the M1 Max Mac Studio, but does not currently sell a desktop Mac with an M1 Pro chip. Earlier reports said the new MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro and Mac mini will be released this year. Apple has two more Mac models in its range with Intel processors: the $ 1,099 high-end Mac mini and the Mac Pro. Both of these Macs could be updated at WWDC22 and with this latest report, it ‘s possible to take a look at Apple’ s next generation chip as well.
