Speaking outside the Royal London Hospital, Hollie Dance said she ‘fought until the end’ and was the ‘proudest mum in the world’. Speaking through tears, she said: “Sadly, Archie passed at 12.15 this afternoon. I would just like to say that I am the proudest mom in the world. “He was such a beautiful little boy. He fought until the end and I’m so proud to be his mom.” Hollie Dance (second left) surrounded by family and friends outside the Royal London Hospital Photo: Aaron Chown/PA Dance and Archie’s father, Paul Battersbee, had in recent days made applications to the high court, the court of appeal and the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) to have him transferred to a hospice to die. The latest appeal for the ECtHR to intervene was rejected late on Friday after the high court ruled that he must remain at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, east London. Archie, a talented gymnast and mixed martial artist, had been in a coma since suffering a catastrophic brain injury on April 7. His mother, who has been at his bedside almost constantly since then, believes it was a result of him choking while taking part in a viral social media challenge. Last month, a high court judge, praising Archie for having “an infectious enthusiasm for life”, ruled it was “futile” to continue treating him. In an interview with Sky News, recorded on Friday, Dance, from Southend-on-Sea, Essex, said the hospital had made it clear there were no other options and that life support would be withdrawn at 10am on Saturday . And I have done it.”
