A man was arrested and taken to hospital with serious injuries after he allegedly attacked four people at a home on Granville Street this weekend. Vancouver police were called around 10 p.m. on Aug. 6 by firefighters after responding to a single-family residence (SRO) fire call in the entertainment district of Granville Street near The Roxy Cabaret (932 Granville St.). A man allegedly started a fire in his suite, according to police. “The man then attacked and stabbed four people inside the building,” according to a police statement. “When officers arrived, they were confronted by the suspect who was still armed with the weapon. Shots fired by police and the suspect was wounded.” Police say all five people were taken to the hospital, including the alleged suspect, who has serious but non-life threatening injuries. “The four victims of the stabbing are also being treated in hospital for serious life-changing injuries,” state police said. They note that there is no threat to public safety at this time. The Roxy’s social media accounts note that the business closed last night. “Due to an incident that occurred at a neighboring business, the Roxy will remain closed tonight,” they explained in a Tweet around 11:30 p.m., Aug. 6. “None of our staff or patrons were involved in the incident and everyone is safe. The incident did not happen inside the Roxy,” they continue to say. In other posts overnight, a chaotic scene with several police cars and other emergency vehicles on Granville Street amid crowds as the popular destination for nightclubs and late-night parties fills with crowds. The Vancouver Major Crimes Unit is investigating the incident. The Independent Investigation Office of the K.K.E. has been called to investigate the incident.
