A COVID-19 outbreak was declared at Kelowna General Hospital last week. The outbreak was reported at the hospital’s Rehabilitation Unit last Tuesday and as of Thursday, 20 cases of COVID-19 patients had been linked to the outbreak. Interior Health no longer issues press releases when new COVID cases are reported, but the health authority’s epidemic website is updated. An IH spokesman was unable to provide the latest number of cases related to the outbreak as of Sunday and was unable to say how many of those 20 patients contracted the disease while in hospital. It is also unclear whether there were any deaths associated with the outbreak. As of Sunday, there are two other reported COVID outbreaks inside, at The Hamlets in Westsyde and Overlander, both in Kamloops. According to the BC COVID-19 control panel, there are 80 people being treated for the virus in the Homeland since Thursday, six of whom are being treated in the intensive care unit.
