An air traveler was recently fined nearly $2,000 by the Australian government for failing to declare two Egg McMuffins and Beef Sausage in his luggage. The unidentified traveler had arrived at Darwin Airport from Bali, according to Australia’s Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry. Upon further inspection, officers found the McMuffins and a ham croissant purchased at a McDonald’s in Bali. The passenger received an “infringement notice” of $2,664 – or about $1,874 in US dollars – for “failing to declare information of potentially high biosecurity risk and providing a false and misleading document”.
