Police were called just before 2:30 a.m. to a liquor store on Banff Avenue — the Dancing Sasquatch, according to CBC News — where a local man was found injured. He was taken to hospital but pronounced dead. A 22-year-old man was taken into custody at the scene, RCMP said in a statement Friday afternoon. The mountain town’s mayor says the tight-knit community is reeling. “We are shocked, angry and devastated that a senseless act robbed us of a beloved Banffite,” Corrie DiManno said in a statement. “We mourn this tremendous loss with all who knew and loved him.” The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation. More details are expected soon, police said.
