World players’ union Fifpro is reportedly monitoring Barcelona’s handling of Frenkie de Jong amid the club’s wage dispute with the midfielder. Barca want to sell De Jong this summer – with Manchester United desperate to sign him – but he is unwilling to leave until the dispute is settled. The Netherlands international is owed £17m in wages by the Spanish club, which he agreed to defer to help the club’s finances during the coronavirus pandemic. Fifpro are reportedly monitoring Barcelona’s handling of midfielder Frenkie de Jong However, according to the Times, Barca want to accept just £6m (€7m) of what is owed to him. That would leave the Dutchman £11m out of pocket. The report says Fifpro officials confirmed they are closely monitoring the situation, but claim these situations are occurring more regularly and are symptomatic of a failing system. It comes after Gary Neville urged De Jong to sue Barcelona for his unpaid wages, particularly as they have paid transfers and wages to new players in the meantime. Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, Jules Kounde, Franck Kessie and Andreas Christensen arrived at the Nou Camp this summer despite the club’s well-documented financial issues.
