The chancellor also addressed the situation in a comment given to The Spectator magazine, saying: “For me, as I’m sure for many others, there is no holiday and no work. I never had that in the private sector, not in government. Ask any entrepreneur and they can tell you. “Millions of us dream of getting away from our families, but the privilege and responsibility of public service means you can never switch off, which is why I get calls and updates every day and continue to do so.” Mr Johnson, who is a month away from leaving Downing Street, last weekend held a belated celebration of his marriage to Carrie Johnson. The Times reported that the couple had flown to Slovenia. A Downing Street spokesman declined to comment, saying it was a “private matter”. Simon Clarke, the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, was also away from his office on Thursday – meaning the two most senior Treasury officials were not in the building. A Treasury source said Mr Clarke was not in the office but was in London working.
