At noon on Thursday, August 4, 2022, the Kamloops Fire Center fire ban goes into effect. A fire ban goes into effect at 12 noon Thursday for the entire Kamloops Fire Station as hot and dry weather increases fire danger. These are the activities that will be prohibited:

Campfires as defined in the Fire Regulations. Class 2 open fire as defined in the Fire Regulations. Category 3 open fire as defined in the Fire Regulations. Fireworks; Sky Lanterns; Burn Barrels or Burn Cages of any size or description. Binary explosive targets. Tiki and similar types of torches. and, Chimneys, outdoor stoves, and other portable fire appliances that are not CSA or ULC approved.

The ban will remain in place until October 15 or until orders are cancelled.

The fire danger rating in the Kamloops fire center has increased to high or extreme in most areas and the area now has the most active wildfires in the province. These prohibitions apply to all public and private lands within the jurisdiction of the Kamloops Fire Station, unless otherwise specified by statute (eg, local government by-law). Always check with local authorities to see if other burning restrictions apply. If you are caught on fire in violation of the ban, you could face a $1,150 ticket, be required to pay an administrative penalty of up to $10,000 or, if convicted in court, you could be fined up to $100,000 and/or convicted to one year in prison. If the violation causes or contributes to a fire, the person responsible may be required to pay all firefighting and related costs.
