The fire broke out on Sunday, July 31, around 10:45 p.m., at Splash Works, which is located in the northwest part of the amusement park.
Vaughan Fire told CP24 that a pump station as well as some water slides were damaged by the fire, which was quickly extinguished.
No injuries were reported.
The amusement park was fully evacuated late Sunday night after a small fire broke out and spread to Splash Works, which had closed at 6pm that day. York Regional Police, who were on hand to assist at the Vaughan fire, said the amusement park was cleared “as a precaution due to the smoke”.
Canada’s Wonderland reopened to the public Monday, but Splash Works, home to the country’s largest outdoor wave pool and 17 water slides, was closed for the day.
In an Aug. 2 email to CP24, Wonderland spokeswoman Grace Peacock said that while the majority of the water park is reopening Tuesday, five water attractions will remain closed.
The fire is said to have started shortly after the Civic Holiday Wonderland fireworks were hosted, however it is not yet clear if the fire is linked to the display.
Vaughan Fire, which had eight appliances on the scene at the height of the fire, said they have no evidence the fire was caused by fireworks, “but will be looking at all possible sources of origin.”
The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office is now investigating.
