Price has been sidelined since undergoing knee surgery last July to repair a torn meniscus and in early October – less than a week before the start of the regular season – joined the NHL / NHLPA 30-Day Assistance Program to address substance- usage issues. Price was in the starting line-up for Friday morning skate at Brossard and then head coach Martin St. Louis confirmed that the veteran goalkeeper will launch against the Islanders. It will be Price’s first game since July 7, when the Canadiens lost the Stanley Cup final to Lightning, throwing a 1-0 decision at Tampa in the 5th game of the best-of-seven series. The price was excellent during the unexpected Canadian playoff series, scoring 2.28 goals against the average and 0.924 rebounds in 22 games, along with a record of 13-9.

“It was a long, long way for him,” Gallagher said of Price, who had been his teammate for 10 years. “He is willing to go there. I’m glad to see him again on the day of the match. It’s already in that spirit down there. He is preparing to do what he has been doing that I have seen so many times all these years here. It will be exciting to see him in the nets. It’s something he’s worked hard for. So in front of him we have to make a good effort and we hope to find a way to win a hockey match “. The Canadians have long since been eliminated from the playoffs and have only eight games left in the regular season, including Friday’s game against the Islanders.

“Right now, the position we are in is not the easiest thing to do,” Gallagher said. “It will help. It will add some leap to our game, for sure. He is someone who, for me personally, means a lot to me as a teammate. But in this organism, when you see a man going through what he has gone through this year, to return to the net, you can see how much it means to him. So you want to represent so well and find a way to win a game for your teammate and do everything you can to help him. So, it would definitely make us jump. “You can see how he prepares down there; he does what he normally does on the day of the race and it’s good to see that,” Gallagher added. “It’s been a while and I enjoy seeing him down there because he’s always a good feeling – a comforting feeling as a teammate when you see him getting ready to play a game.”

“It has always been my goal since I came back here,” he said. “I had some unforeseen failures. It was a disappointing process, no doubt. But, at the end of the day, I have to take care of it and moving forward I will start skating again, so I hope to continue to progress and be able to return in uniform very soon. “ Gallagher said Friday morning that he has watched how hard Price has worked this season to return to the starting line-up. “There were a lot of setbacks he had to deal with and he handled them like a professional and kept pushing forward to get to this point where he could get back into the net for us,” Gallagher said. “To do what we do, we do not lose sight of how lucky we are and when they take it away from you for long periods of time – as it was for him – it is exciting to go back to the nets and always want to perform and do your best.”

Price will turn 35 on Aug. 16 and has four seasons left on his $ 84 million eight-year contract, with an annual salary cap of $ 10.5 million. The goalkeeper also has a full no-go clause in his contract. Speaking to the media in January, Price said he had no plans to lift the travel ban clause. “My family and I are very happy here, we have settled,” he said. “We know this is our home. There is one reason I signed a contract like I did here with a no travel clause was to be here. So at the moment I have no plans to move anywhere. “ [email protected] twitter.com/StuCowan1
