Photo: Port Moody Police Station The playground at Aspenwood Elementary was removed by Port Moody Police today (April 14) after the children’s eyes were exposed to an unknown substance Port Moody Police (PMPD) are investigating what appeared to be a hot sauce found soiled at a local school. The unknown substance was found on high-touch surfaces of the Aspenwood Elementary playground and resulted in minor eye injuries to seven children today (April 14). PMPD officers were called to School District 43 (SD43) around 12:30 p.m. – located in 2001 Panorama Dr. Where it was found that the suspected hot sauce had been intentionally soiled. The children were then reacting as the substance was exposed to their eyes, said Const. Sam Zacharias explains, noting that police are “actively investigating the matter to determine who is responsible.” A total of seven children were hospitalized for injuries at school. Zacharias says some were sent home early, while others stayed in Aspenwood for the rest of the day. The Port Moody Rescue Fire Department and the BC Ambulance Service also responded to the incident.
