Benny was resting in the field with the other donkeys on Thursday, April 14 at around 5:30 pm when a couple and their three dogs approached him. As one of the dogs approached Benny, they bit his face and locked their jaws, causing a deep cut.
The CCTV video appears to show one of the dog’s owners hitting him with the cord to make him release his bite and then the couple appears to walk away. Benny is recovering now that his confidence has been shaken after the incident.

Director Lily Wade, 17, said she was disappointed and upset by the incident, but is happy that Bennie was not seriously injured. He said: “We believe it was a couple walking next to a donkey’s field in Thorpe Park with three dogs and their donkeys approaching to greet and caress them.
“The owners took the dogs to the fence and the dogs started jumping on the fence many times and the owners seem to be trying to pull one of them, but it stayed on the fence. The dog then appears to jump and grab Bennie by the nose and Bennie tries to step back. The dog owners then hit their dog on the head with the lead to pull it out.

Lily and her family received a call from a witness who told them to get off the paddock immediately. He said: “All the donkeys were in very good condition when we finally got down there. It was a pretty deep cut when we first saw it, but thankfully it stopped bleeding now. The attack had also left bite marks around the right side of its nose. “Benny and he was lucky he didn’t need stitches.”
Lily said it was a very disturbing time for her and her donkey family and the whole ordeal has upset her a lot. She explained: “I’m saddened and find it awful how they could just leave and let Benny suffer with blood on his face.

“They did not even mention it and it could have been much worse if they had not called us so soon after it happened. The field is the donkeys at home and they should feel safe there. As a result, Bennie’s confidence has hit So we just watch him “People have suggested we put up an electric fence, but the stadium is a big attraction for people in Thorpe Park and it would not be fair for the children if we stopped them from being able to pet the donkeys.”
