The athletics program starts this morning at the Alexandros Stadium. Katarina Johnson-Thompson will compete in the women’s heptathlon which will go through the 100m hurdles and the shot put in the morning session. This starts shortly after 10am. and will continue the evening session. There are also the first rounds of the men’s and women’s 100m, featuring Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake and five-time Olympian Elaine Thompson-Herah. This is next to the first round of the women’s 800m in which Laura Muir will run. Plenty of swimming heats will also bring you before Adam Peaty makes his final bid for Commonwealth gold this afternoon in the men’s 50m breaststroke. After everything he had to say yesterday, that sure would be an interesting watch. We expect more gold from England’s gymnasts this evening with Jake Jarman, Joe Fraser and James Hall returning to action alongside Alice Kinsella, Georgia-Mae Fenton and Ondine Achampong in the individual apparatus finals. Gold medals will also be awarded in judo, weightlifting and table tennis. All home countries are well placed for a step on the podium at these events. And of course throughout the day we’ll be bringing you updates from the hockey, netball and cricket group stages.
