The deal could be done before Everton’s next game against Aston Villa on Saturday. Coady was dropped by Wolves manager Bruno Lage for Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Leeds as Max Kilman combined with Nathan Collins in a four-man defence. It was the 29-year-old’s first time out of selection in a Wolves shirt since April 2017 and he remained an unused substitute at Elland Road. Everton beat West Ham to his signature, with Coadi keen to end his seven-year spell at Molineux to secure first-team football ahead of the Qatar World Cup and a possible England call-up. Everton’s need for a centre-back intensified after Ben Godfrey and Yerry Mina suffered injuries on the opening day in the 1-0 home defeat by Chelsea. Godfrey has suffered a broken fibula while Mina has an ankle problem with the timing of their absences not yet known. The initial fee for Coady is understood to be around £12m plus add-ons. At his press conference on Friday, Lage said Coady was “still my captain” but accepted he had to make decisions about his team structure. When asked if there was any truth to the reports, Lage said: “It is right and respectful not to respond to individuals. “He is one of the best people I know in football. Today I can say that he is a guy that I will keep in my friendship, he is still my leader. Image: Coady has also attracted interest from West Ham “I have enormous respect for him. I have to make my decisions but I can’t forget Coady or any player. “It’s not just about the World Cup, every player wants to play. Coady and all the players are focused and trying to improve in a series of four. I’ve got my whole squad motivated.” Asked if Coady could leave, Lage added: “I really don’t know. But I’ll respect him and figure out what’s best for him.”
