In an op-ed published Tuesday, Washington Post columnist Max Boot argued that despite President Biden’s poor election, age and blunders in office, the Democratic Party has no better alternative to run in 2024. Booth opened his latest column with an assessment of Biden’s presidency, insisting it’s not as bad as the polls suggest. “Yet even as the perception that Biden is too old and too out of it has taken root, he is quietly amassing an impressive list of legislative accomplishments.” “Biden may turn out to be a more worthy candidate in 2024, if he runs again, than he appears now,” Booth said. Biden is currently so unpopular in his own party that 75% of Democratic voters want a different 2024 candidate for president. President Joe Biden is still the best Democratic candidate in the 2024 election, Washington Post columnist Max Boot argued Tuesday.
DEMOCRATS JOIN DEMOCRATS PRAISE BIDEN ON DEATH OF AL Qaeda LEADER ZAWAHRI The columnist cited those legislative accomplishments, including leading Democrats to pass a “$1.9 trillion economic stimulus package, a $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill” and “the most important (if still inadequate) gun legislation in three decades” – not to mention Biden securing a “windfall deal with Sen. Joe Manchin III (DW.Va.)” to pass a deficit reduction and clean energy bill. Booth hit out at critics who mocked Biden’s “devotion to bipartisanship,” arguing that he is “vindicated.” The author touts Biden’s foreign policy achievements, despite his stumble with the withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan. “He was steadfast in mobilizing an international coalition to support Ukraine and impose sanctions on Russia,” the columnist said, further praising Biden for his presidency. US manned aircraft”. In light of these political achievements, Bott argued: “This is hardly the record of a senile seven-dayer.” He argued that Biden’s unpopularity is due to the fact that “inflation is at a 40-year high” and said that it is not primarily the president’s fault. “But while Biden may have contributed to the inflationary spiral with an overly generous stimulus bill, he does not deserve most of the blame for what is a global phenomenon,” he wrote. It’s not Biden’s politics that are the problem according to Booth, it’s his failures to “communicate.” “Biden has made less effective use of the bully pulpit than any president since George W. Bush, another longtime Washington insider, and we know what happened to him in 1992.” Bott also acknowledged that Biden’s age is a “major” weakness — “he would be 82 at the start of a second term,” the columnist wrote. Biden won the nomination in 2020 not because he excited anyone, but because he was seen as the least bad choice. That may still be the case.” If Biden were to bow out, “Vice President Harris would be the prohibitive favorite for the nomination,” Bott wrote, though he noted that “he is as unpopular as Biden and, unlike him, lacks the experience to pull through. ” He also argued that she would be “vulnerable to sexist, nativist and racist attacks from Republicans”. DEMOCRATS AND DEMOCRATS PRAISE VICE PRESIDENT HARRIS’ PRESENCE ON THE CAMPAIGN, BUT FOR VERY DIFFERENT REASONS He blasted the other potential 2024 candidates, stating: “Many of Harris’ potential rivals – e.g. Pete Buttigieg, Amy Klobuchar, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Cory Booker – failed, like her, to win over Democratic voters in 2020, and it’s not clear. that they would do better in 2024,” he speculated. Boot also mentioned that Gov. Gavin Newsom, R-Calif., and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, D-Mich., “could be formidable competitors,” but “since they’ve never run national campaigns before, they could easily be tied.” with voters outside their home states.” Bott said that if any of those candidates challenged Biden, “it would be tantamount to handing the White House to an increasingly disorganized Republican Party. The primary challenges to incumbents in 1968, 1976, 1980 and 1992 all led to the defeat of their party.” Boot concluded his op-ed by stating, “Democrats could try to talk Biden out of seeking re-election and make way for a new generation. But before party elders urge the aging president to bow out, they should think seriously the possibility that he himself is the worst Democratic candidate apart from any other.” CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP Bott argued that President Joe Biden’s “experience” makes him a better 2024 candidate than the rest of the Democratic candidates.
