The video, which has been circulating on social media, shows young people throwing rockets at police Land Rovers at the City Cemetery on Lone Moor Road. This is followed by a democratic parade to celebrate the 1916 Easter Uprising that took place in the city on Easter Monday. The parade was linked to the Saoradh group, which is accused of having links to the New IRA. The Parade Committee had decided not to wear paramilitary clothes in the procession. Five men, aged 29, 38, 40, 50 and 54, were arrested under the Terrorism Act. A sixth man, aged 40, was arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct. Police confirmed that all six men remained in custody on Monday afternoon. Police also seized several vehicles, suspected terrorist uniforms and petrol bombs. Derry & Strabane County Sheriff’s Chief Superintendent Ryan Henderson said: “Earlier today, police attended a notified parade in the city. Based on initial observations, parade participants were found to have committed potential criminal offenses. “The police closely monitored the incident and, as deemed appropriate, took action to secure evidence and make arrests. “While doing so, the police were attacked by petrol bombs and masonry. “Our officers showed tremendous courage and professionalism in a situation that was still clearly dangerous. Fortunately, none of our officers or members of the public were injured as a result of this reckless and criminal behavior. Our investigations will continue in the coming days and weeks. to bring the perpetrators to justice. “ The parade coincides with the third anniversary of the murdered journalist Lyra McKee. Mrs McKee, a journalist, died after being hit by a bullet during riots in the Creggan area of Londonderry on April 18, 2019. Meanwhile, Lyra’s family expressed their disgust at a democratic Easter parade.
