A lottery expert says players should avoid using specific numbers such as anniversary dates and use higher numbers for better odds of winning. “Well, just because that’s what a lot of people do,” Richard Wheeler told Inside Edition. “So think about it, one to 12 and for birthdays and anniversaries, you end up sharing it with other people.” Wheeler told the outlet that another strategy to increase your chances of getting just the winning ticket is to not pick low numbers. “What you can do to increase your odds is to pick numbers a little bit higher, usually that means picking numbers in the 60s,” he continued. “The last three draws have been numbers in the 60s and that’s why nobody prevails to pick those numbers.” His comments come as the Mega Millions jackpot has grown to $1.28 billion after no one has won the prize since April 15, the Associated Press reported. The AP reported Saturday that someone in Illinois won the huge prize from Friday’s drawing. The winning numbers were 13-36-45-57-67 and the Mega Ball was 14. The winner has yet to step forward and claim his fortune. “We are thrilled to witness one of the largest jackpot wins in Mega Millions history,” Ohio Lottery Director Pat McDonald said in a news release. “We can’t wait to find out who won and look forward to congratulating the winner soon!”
