Trump, who has repeatedly said he has made up his mind about the 2024 race, was asked by Fox News Digital at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Texas when Republicans could expect an official announcement. “It’s certainly not a very long time, the time is coming,” the former president said. “I think people will be very happy, our country has never been in this position, we have lost everything.” Trump said America faces both a domestic and foreign policy crisis. In particular, he argued that the “prestige” of the country had been damaged by President Biden’s bad departure from Afghanistan. “Our country has never been in a worse place,” Trump said. “They gave away $85 billion worth of equipment, dead soldiers, you still have Americans there possibly as hostages, eventually you will be hostages, there has never been a time like this. “We will make an announcement in the not too distant future,” Trump added. Trump received nearly 70 percent of the ballots cast at the convention, with Florida Gov. Ron DeSandis a distant second with 23.7 percent. Since leaving the White House in January 2021, Trump has maintained an active presence in the Republican Party. The former president has endorsed an extensive list of candidates running for everything from local and state office to the United States Senate.
