Except Trump didn’t pick just one candidate. Instead, he appears to be picking two candidates, both of whom (Eric Greitens and Eric Schmitt) have the same first name. “I trust the Great People of Missouri, on this, to make up their own minds, as they did when they gave me landslide victories in the 2016 and 2020 Elections, and therefore I am proud to announce that ERIC has their full and Complete endorsement!” Trump said in a statement. After the former president’s announcement, Greitens told The Daily Beast through a spokesperson that he was “honored to receive President Trump’s endorsement,” despite the vague endorsement. “Since the beginning of the race, I have been the true MAGA warrior fighting against the RINO establishment supporting Mr. Schmidt,” he added, citing a message Trump sent Sunday night on the Truth Social bashing Schmidt. Schmitt then claimed Trump’s endorsement as his own, saying in a statement, “It is truly an honor to have the support of President Trump.” Not to be outdone, Greitens then tweeted that he had spoken with Trump and thanked him for the support. Schmidt also said the former president had called him and thanked him for his vote of confidence in the race. Trump’s last-minute statement comes just before Election Day and follows The Daily Beast’s report that Trumpworld remains deeply divided on the race.
