It promises to be a nail in the coffin for the participants and a lot of fun for the rest of us. There is a problem, however, and it is far from small. Tesla may well be a victim of battle.
Twitter control will be extremely controversial. The company is not going to fall without a fight. To gain control, Musk will have to spend the next few months locked up with his bankers, lawyers and public relations activists looking for ways to win over shareholders. Not only will it be expensive – the roughly $ 40 billion it’s ending up will not be a huge blow to its estimated $ 240 billion fortune, although it will have to sell some Tesla stock to finance it – it will also be a lot time consuming. At a time when Tesla should seize the opportunity given to it by the rise in oil prices and the energy crisis, to lead its dominance in the electric vehicle industry, its founder is distracted by a quixotic pursuit of this which is, by comparison, a minor undertaking. It’s hard to believe that Tesla is not going to suffer from this. Every company needs someone in charge and Musk will be missing for months. Then Twitter is a hotly debated site. The technical term in clinical psychology for the average user is “batsh! & T crazy”. Most social media can be disastrous, but it is also relatively harmless. Facebook is mainly used to keep up with friends and family, Instagram to post photos of what everyone eats for brunch, Snapchat for teens who are flirting with each other and WhatsApp to send messages to your mom. Twitter is the place where people gather for tough political struggles. It is characterized by a hysterical form of left-wing virtue signaling where anyone gently to Lenin’s right is rejected as a Nazi.
