Trees, hedges, plants and garden decks are burning behind a row of houses on Hereford Road, the London Fire Brigade (LFB) said. The cause of the fire is not known at this stage, the fire and rescue service said. A large amount of smoke could be seen billowing from the gridlock by passengers on planes heading to nearby Heathrow Airport. Historian Robert Harris shared one of the videos and said: “Coming in for landing at Heathrow just before 5pm today. The burnt fields. The fire!” People living near the inferno reportedly said windows were broken due to the heat and ash was “falling from the sky”. Several people in the area have posted their own footage of their gardens burning with flames higher than the trees. Some locals reportedly said they heard an “explosion”. This has not been confirmed by emergency services. Firefighters were called to the scene at 4.35pm. They arrived with 10 engines from a number of fire stations, including those outside Hounslow borough such as those in Hillingdon, Kingston, Southall, Sherbiton and Tooting. Hounslow station commander Tamer Ozdemir, who was at the scene, said according to MyLondon: “Firefighters have worked incredibly hard in hot, grueling conditions to stop the fire spreading to nearby properties. “Their hard work has saved around 30 homes on Hereford Road. “Approximately 60 residents were evacuated due to the amount of smoke. “Our drone team is on scene helping crews locate further hot spots in the surrounding forest.” The Metropolitan Police said its officers were assisting the LFB at the scene and advised people to “avoid the area”. The main road, Harlington Road East, has been closed. This is the second fire to hit Feltham in the past week. On Monday (August 1), around 100 firefighters tackled a huge grass fire in Hatton Road which burnt six hectares, including arable land, a field, Bedfont FC football pitches, a park, pastures, a cemetery and an animal sanctuary.
