The Royal St. John’s Regatta Committee is gearing up this week for its first event free of COVID restrictions since 2019. But while the restrictions have been lifted, COVID contingency plans are still in place. Race day is Wednesday, with the weather is so far looking good with a chance of showers and temperatures in the mid-20s. Committee vice president and Captain of the Course, Ashley Peach, says a focus now is ensuring there are enough staff for the big day. She says the committee has been working on backup plans in case key personnel, such as gunners and those who operate the safety boat and judges’ boat, are unable to attend. The same goes for the crews, some of which will need to dip into their spare pools to fill out their shells.
