A photo shows flames inside the station off Dorchester Road. Several fire engines are at the scene. A motorhome reportedly caught fire while filling at the pumps. The front of the vehicle is burnt. It is estimated that the occupants escaped from the vehicle without injury. Firefighters were called just after 9am. Traffic is permitted outside the Morrisons car park. Three fire engines are at the scene along with the police. Firefighters were seen spraying water on the roof of the gas station to cool the area. District Fire Commander for Weymouth and Portland, James Plumley said: “Crews were called to a major fire involving a large camper van. The cause is currently unknown. “There has been significant damage to the forecourt, roof and petrol pumping equipment, the caravan has been completely destroyed. “Crews from Weymouth and Dorchester are here and an aerial ladder platform from Weymouth is on its way. There are approximately 18 to 19 firefighters at the scene. “Crews did an excellent job of stopping the fire from spreading.” The brigade was alerted at 9.11am.
