Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSandis on Thursday suspended the state’s liberal attorney general, Andrew Warren. DeSantis made the announcement during a news conference broadcast Thursday on social media. DeSantis argued that Warren has repeatedly refused to enforce laws passed by the Legislature cracking down on sex-reassignment surgery on children and restrictions on abortion. “We are suspending Soros-backed 13th Circuit U.S. Attorney Andrew Warren for dereliction of duty as he vows not to uphold state law,” DeSandi’s office said in a statement. The 13th Circuit falls over Hillsborough County, Florida. “The Florida Constitution has vested the veto power in the governor, not the state attorneys general,” DeSantis said. “We are not going to allow this pathology of disregard for the law to take hold in the state of Florida.” DESANTIS LAUNCHES FIRST TELEVISION AD OF HIS FLORIDA GOVERNOR’S RE-ELECTION CAMPAIGN U.S. Florida Governor Ron DeSandis speaks at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Orlando, Florida, U.S., February 24, 2022. DeSantis’ office had teased Thursday’s move Wednesday, saying the announcement would not be political or related to endorsements. “It’s not about abortion or anything else, it’s about accountability in our law and order system to prosecute crime. A pattern has developed in Hillsborough County where one person picks and chooses which laws they want to enforce.” his office said. This is a developing story. Check back soon for updates.
