The incident is another horror story revealed online by angry players who have visited the now infamous restaurant, DK Oyster 1 DK Oyster Bar has a reputation for high prices – but defends them fiercelyCredit: DK Oyster Bar The beach restaurant on the island’s stunning Platy Gialos is famous for its shocking prices. It has been accused of defrauding tourists – claims it has always vehemently denied as it defends its high prices. And a Tripadvisor reviewer from last summer claims she was charged €58 (£50) for a lemonade. DK Oyster bosses hit back at her claims in the comments section, branding her comments a “disgrace”. The reviewer, from Milton Keynes, accused the bar of “ruining” her last day in Mykonos. “These people […] I honestly shouldn’t be able to sleep at night stealing people’s money,” he raged in the review from July 2021. He claims that when they arrived they were told that the sunbeds were free as long as they spent €25 per person. Holidaymakers “pressed to order” just sat down, picked up a lemonade and a water as it was “early” and wanted to “spend all day there”. But when the drinks arrived there was the first disappointment, with the drink being “drinkless” and “so bitter”. She claims the waiter came back 10 minutes later to take another order but was told they didn’t need anything else. The waiter is then said to have returned and demanded “I have to take your order” – again with the duo telling her “no”. “After a few times, we were too annoyed as we came to the beach to relax?” said the reviewer. At lunchtime, he wrote that they ordered an “average” €25 club sandwich – and discovered they couldn’t even go into the sea because of a “sewage leak”. “Honestly, the whole menu was extortionately priced and because they were so pushy, we didn’t really want to spend a lot of time there,” he said. And then the biggest shock came when they went for pie, they charged 58 euros for the lemonade. Claimed the menu said the lemonade was supposed to be €18 but the waiter said it was the “regular lemonade” So in total they were charged €114 for a water, lemonade and two sandwiches – and said the restaurant only offered them a €10 refund after the experience. “They would have more business if they were transparent and classy like other places,” he wrote.

BITTER SERIES

“But just look at the reviews. You’re one of the lucky ones who read it first.” Her experience is echoed by hundreds of other customers, with DK Oyster rated 2.5 stars on TripAdvisor out of 1,464 reviews as of publication. The bar has 578 one-star reviews, 32 two-star reviews, 19 three-star reviews, 52 four-star reviews and 337 five-star reviews. Furious customers have branded the restaurant the ‘worst experience ever’ and accused them of being a ‘scam’. Some reviews in recent days include a tourist who claims he was charged €36 for an iced tea and €250 for two rounds. However, other customers were more positive – praising the restaurant’s setting and saying “the prices are good for the high-end restaurant that it is”. DK Oyster has a reputation for high prices – and was recently fined £25,000 following an audit by the Cyclades Regional Tourism Authority, Protothema and the Greek City Times report. The investigation was started by two Americans who claimed they were charged more than £500 for a couple of mojitos and some crab legs. The restaurant often defends itself against criticism, including a direct response to the lemonade drama – calling the text a “disgrace” and complaining that the reviewer was anonymous. Signed simply as “DK”, the restaurant compared it to spending “$9 million on a Bugatti” and “a new Nissan Versa for $16,000”.

LEMON PAID

“You might think you’re smart enough to get a Bugatti for the price of a cheaper car, just because you scream a little louder, but you’re not,” DK responded to TripAdvisor. The restaurant wrote: “In your case all I see is a person who keeps talking about ‘hard earned money’ and doesn’t want to pay for the price of services and products provided by other hard working people.” Angry customers have even set up a dedicated website – DKOysterScam.com – to warn other tourists and share their experiences. And meanwhile, the Sun Online spoke to angry holidaymaker Jak Kypri who revealed he was charged £360 for four drinks and a snack at DK Oyster Jack ordered two tequila shots, two beers, and some shrimp which, when it arrived, was just “six shrimp.” “They became aggressive and started crowding around me when I challenged the astronomical and unreasonable prices,” he said. “I thought, I’m an 18 stone guy, I speak Greek, I won’t be scared.” Platys Gialos is famous for its luxury hotels and restaurants and hosts a restaurant owned by Turkish chef Nusret Gokce, better known as Salt Bae. The Sun Online has approached DK Oyster Bar for comment.
