Chatham-Kent lost a beloved community member, longtime volunteer and former police inspector. Tim Mifflin, who spent 32 years in the Chatham-Kent Police Department and 30 years as an active member of the Chatham Goodfellows, has died at the age of 63. “He was a great leader,” said Goodfellows’s Porchlight director Craig Williston. “He will miss her very much.” As an active member of the Goodfellows, Mifflin was a well-known figure in the community. “He always had a hand in everything,” said Tim Haskell, who volunteered with Mifflin for many years with the Goodfellows. “He went out to deliver toys, food and to help manifest the light on the terrace. He would come to all the different events “. Haskell said the news of Mifflin’s death came as a shock to many Goodfellows members. “He is a good friend and it is one of those things that when you lose someone like that, it shocks you,” Haskell said. Recalling their friendship, Haskell said the two often got confused with each other, adding that it was always a reason to make them laugh. “I do not know how many times I have been called Mr. Mifflin,” Haskell said. “I never bothered to get confused with him because he was such a wonderful guy.” Mifflin began his police career in 1980 with the Chatham Police Department. In the 32 years of his service he worked in various fields from the road to the criminal investigation department. He was promoted to inspector where he continues to play a leading role in the development of the now-defunct Chatham-Kent police department. Mifflin retired from police in 2012. Family and friends are invited to the Alexander & Houle Funeral Home at 245 Wellington Street in Chatham on Friday, April 22, visiting from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. or from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. The memorial service will be held from the chapel at the funeral home on Saturday, April 23.
