A heavy rain threat could produce 1 to 2 inches of rain in just 45 minutes, with locally higher storm totals possible, according to the National Weather Service. NWS Several thunderstorms are expected Sunday afternoon through Sunday afternoon. The heavy rain is expected to end late Sunday, with a flash flood watch set to expire at midnight. Areas of recent burns are particularly vulnerable, leading to potential flash flooding and debris flows in areas previously damaged by flash flooding earlier in the year. Burn-scarred areas of Cameron Peak and Calwood are included in a flood watch that goes into effect Sunday afternoon. NWS “The focus of storms today is expected in and near the foothills. The weak front pushing south this morning stalls as it pushes up the eastern slopes of the Foothills and Front Range Mountains,” the NWS forecast discussion said. Next week will be drier and warmer, with highs in the mid-80s on Monday and just a slight chance for a scattered storm late in the day. Denver7 Weather
