Fulham vs Liverpool live analysis! – By Joe Prince-Wright at Craven Cottage

⚪️🤝🔴 Fulham’s new boys battled to an impressive 2-2 draw against title hopefuls Liverpool ➡️ Great effort from #FFC who could win it against a sloppy #LFC. A draw is probably the fair result. My thoughts on a wild clash here at Craven Cottage ⤵️ #FULLIV pic.twitter.com/AVHnLjcHdM — Joe Prince-Wright (@JPW_NBCSports) August 6, 2022 FINAL: Fulham 2-2 Liverpool. They can! What a massive point for Fulham and you know what, they deserved it. What an exciting start to a busy Premier League Saturday. Few minutes to go here. Can Fulham hold on? GOAL! Mohamed Salah equalizes for Liverpool. Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross is missed by Tim Reim and the ball bounces to Salah who hits home. What a game! For the sixth consecutive season, Mo Salah scored on the opening day! #LFC Liverpool equalized once again. With less than 10 minutes remaining, will there be a winner? Relief for the home fans. GOAL! Fulham lead 2-1. Mitrovic won the penalty after a clear foul by Virgil van Dijk. Incredible scenes here at Craven Cottage. Fulham fans are in dreamland. PENALTY TO FULHAM! GOAL! Darwin Nunez with a bold move that goes through a deflection after great work from Mohamed Salah on the right. Liverpool equalise. Well and truly play here at Craven Cottage. SHUT UP! Salah places the ball for Darwin Nunez but his backheel is saved. The Fulham fans sat behind me: “This can’t last!” But could it? Liverpool are quite disappointed. POSITION! How did this not get in! USMNT’s Tim Ream does brilliantly to win the ball back and get forward, then Neeskens Kebano’s shot beats Alisson but hits the post and bounces wide. So close to 2nd for Fulham. From inside the post! Fulham came very close to doubling their advantage over Liverpool. 📺: @peacockTV #MyPLMorning | #FULLIV pic.twitter.com/mTs6bXptcL — NBC Sports Soccer (@NBCSportsSoccer) August 6, 2022 Sluggish start to the second half here at Craven Cottage. Fulham sit a little deeper and Liverpool try to get through from the back. Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott both come on early in the second half for Liverpool. Thiago leaves slowly with an injury. 👏 Fulham were excellent and thoroughly deserved their lead against Liverpool here in a very lively west London. Here’s how to watch the second half ➡️ My thoughts from here at Craven Cottage ⤵️ #FFC #LFC #FULLIV pic.twitter.com/dAplh3Eh6t — Joe Prince-Wright (@JPW_NBCSports) August 6, 2022 HALF TIME: Fulham 1-0 Liverpool – Mitrovic’s header the difference as Fulham give Liverpool a scare here. The Reds have come close on a few occasions but Fulham thoroughly deserve their lead with new signings Pereira and Palhinha particularly impressive. POSITION! Luis Diaz hits the post with a beautiful effort as he almost sneaks a shot in from an impossible angle. Liverpool are so close to equalizing. It should be 1-1. Andy Robertson is at the back post and his goalbound ball misses the onrushing Liverpool players. Very good game, this one. GOLLL! This was coming. Aleksandar Mitrovic heads home at the back as he rises above Trent Alexander-Arnold to nod home. Fulham thoroughly deserve this lead. They’ve been great so far. The home fans have gone wild here at Craven Cottage! It had to be him! After scoring 43 goals in the Championship last season, Aleksandar Mitrovic gives Fulham the lead over Liverpool. #FFC 📺: @peacockTV#MyPLMorning | #FULLIV pic.twitter.com/lBBjewxchA — NBC Sports Soccer (@NBCSportsSoccer) August 6, 2022 BLOCK! Harrison Reed’s shot was well saved by Robertson and Mitrovic twice came close to reaching the goal post. Fulham are really going here. Liverpool haven’t started yet. Fulham fans are, shall we say, “unhappy with the refereeing” in this first half. Joel Matip has gotten away with some questionable tackles. The hosts still hold their own. SHUT UP! Fulham’s Pereira whips in a free-kick which Tim Ream flicks wide, then Joao Palhinia’s effort is deflected wide. Very good pressure from the home team. Luis Diaz has the ball in the back of the net with a great curling finish… but Andy Robertson is offside in the set-up. Decent finish from Diaz, though, and much better from Liverpool. Fulham are really going here. Antonee Robinson was flying down the left flank at every opportunity. Liverpool are looking a bit shaky. The home fans love it. START: And a very good chance for Fulham straight away! Alexander-Arnold’s clearance falls straight to Mitrovic and he takes a few too many touches, then curls an effort harmlessly wide. Mitro seemed to be a bit unsure if he would make it or not. The teams are out, it’s loud here at the Cottage and we’re all ready. Let’s go. Hello and welcome to Craven Cottage! It’s a beautiful day here on the banks of the River Thames. What an amazing place to start the first Saturday of the new season. 🚨Welcome to Craven Cottage! What a day for a game down here on the banks of the River Thames. Stunning. Can #LFC get off to a flying start against #FFC new boys? #USMNT’s Ream & Robinson both start. Fulham team news, injuries, line-up

Joe Bryan and Harry Wilson are ruled out with wrist and knee problems respectively, while new signings Bernd Leno, Shane Duffy and Kevin Mbabu are on the bench, while other new boys Joao Palhinha and Andres Pereira start. USMNT duo Tim Ream and Antonee Robinson start for Fulham. Your first Fulham of 2022/23! 👊#FULLIV pic.twitter.com/ZEyrqLHRog — Fulham Football Club (@FulhamFC) August 6, 2022

Liverpool team news, injuries, line-up

Jurgen Klopp has been mixing things up throughout preseason, but we saw what was close to his best starting line-up in the Community Shield win against Manchester City last weekend. Liverpool are without Diogo Jota, Curtis Jones, Caoimhine Kelleher and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, while Kostas Tsimikas, Naby Keita and Ibrahima Konate are ruled out. Alisson is back in goal after missing most of pre-season with an abdominal problem. Here’s how we’re lining up for our first 2022/23 @PremierLeague 👊🔴 #FULLIV — Liverpool FC (@LFC) August 6, 2022

Basic stories

It’s been a crazy run for Fulham over the last five seasons with two relegations and three promotions in the Premier League. Life at Craven Cottage is anything but boring. All their hopes are once again pinned on Aleksandar Mitrovic as the Serbian goal machine (at least in the second tier) will be full of crosses and the hope is that he can finally become more productive in the Premier League. Marco Silva has spoken candidly about Fulham not making many signings this summer and staying will be a huge achievement. Silva loves counter attacks and needs a good start to the season to generate positive vibes. Sidenote: Fulhamerica is still going strong with Tim Ream and Antonee Robinson playing key roles this season. Liverpool have had a fairly decent, and quiet, off-season overall. They sold Sadio Mane early in the summer but replaced him with club-record signing Darwin Nunez, who looks set to be the next star at Anfield. And oh yes, they also managed to sign Mohamed Salah to a new long-term deal. Klopp’s side have had some strange results in pre-season but are preparing well for the new campaign and the big questions are how Nunes, Diaz and Salah will play together as a forward trio, as well as how many gassers like Jordan Henderson. and Thiago Alcanatara left in the tank for another push for all four trophies.
