Police say a man in northwest Georgia killed his grandmother by putting her in a freezer while she was still alive. Floyd County police found the body of 82-year-old Doris Cumming late Thursday at her home in Armucci she was sharing with her grandson, 29-year-old Robert Keith Tincher III. Tincher was charged with murder, aggravation of the attack and concealment of another’s death. He remains imprisoned in Rome. It is not clear if he has a lawyer who could comment on his behalf. Police said Cumming’s family thought he had moved out of state, but was concerned he did not hear from her and said he could be ignored. Police said they believe Cumming was injured in a fall in December and that instead of getting medical help, Tincher dragged her into the house. Prosecutors say Tinzer “heard and saw many bones break.” He then wrapped her in plastic bags and put her in a large freezer, with accusations that Tincher “acknowledged that her back was broken in the freezer”. The accusations say that there was no “quarrel or provocation” that led to the actions. “From what we identified at the time, he thought he was still breathing and had some movement as he went to the freezer,” Floyd County researcher Brittany Werner told WAGA-TV. Tincher continued to live at home with the body in the freezer for months, but transported it to a storage facility in March, fearing that Cumming’s body could be found. Werner said Tincher told police he did not call 911 because he was wanted for arrest because of terrorist threats made in 2018 against his wife. Tincher also told investigators how much he loved his grandmother. “He said he was the only member of the family who gave him the kindness, love and attention he needed,” Werner said. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting an autopsy to determine the cause and timing of Cumming’s death. ——— This story corrects that the suspect’s last name is Tincher, not Fincher.
