The girl’s death is being treated as unexplained and an investigation has been launched. “This has been an extremely traumatic and distressing incident for all involved,” said local policing commander for Windsor and Maidenhead, Superintendent Michael Greenwood. “I know a number of members of the public went into the lake shortly after the girl got into difficulty, but were unable to locate her. “I would like to congratulate them for their courage and bravery.” Police were called at around 4pm to reports of a young female being in difficulty at Liquid Leisure. About an hour later, she was found and taken to hospital, but did not survive. The girl’s family has been notified, although formal identification is pending. A witness, who was at the park with her children, told Sky News the girl was seen going under the water and “didn’t come back up”. “At that point, the lifeguards came running,” he said. “He was with a group for a girl’s birthday,” said the mother, who did not want to be named. “My daughter spoke to the birthday party.” Members of the public at the activity park were told to shout her name on the beach in case she had come out of the water and was coming back to land. “But no one found her,” said the witness. “The lifeguards were working incredibly hard. “After about 30 minutes, we were asked to leave the beach by the time the ambulance and fire brigade arrived. There was a police helicopter, an ambulance and a search and rescue boat. “I saw one of the adults from the group the girl was with and asked if there was anything I could do to help, and he just asked me to pray for her.” Staff “asked customers for goggles” to look underwater A second witness told Sky News: “We were waiting to get things going and the lifeguards were running over the barriers and looking under them. “They were disassembling Ninja Warrior near the beach, looking for her. “Staff started asking customers for goggles to look for her underwater.” Sky News has contacted Liquid Leisure for comment.
