“Smiling from ear to ear as he removes the Floridian reproductive rights. “He is cruel and disgusting,” Hotsul wrote on Twitter in response to a post that included footage of the bill being signed. “Anyone seeking abortion care should know that they are welcome in New York,” said Hotsul. Some commentators have questioned Hochul’s wording in her fiery response. “An interesting choice of words, ‘tears’ as you talk about abortion, gov,” wrote a Twitter user. Florida’s new law, which will take effect July 1 – will ban abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy, a dramatic reduction from the current 24-week limit. It does not allow exceptions for pregnancies caused by rape, incest or human trafficking. However, it allows the procedure when an abortion is deemed necessary to save the mother’s life, to prevent serious injury or if the fetus has a fatal abnormality. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has been criticized by Gov. Kathy Hochul for smiling as he signed a 15-week abortion ban in his state. SOPA Images / LightRocket via Gett
