Officials said Russian troops are launching waves of attacks in a bid to take control of the industrialized Donbas region. “The situation in the region is tense – shelling is continuous across the front line… The enemy is also using airstrikes heavily,” Donetsk regional governor Pavlo Kyrilenko told Ukrainian television. “The enemy has no success. The Donetsk region is holding.” Around Kharkiv in the northeast, Ukrainian troops captured the town of Dovhenke from Russian occupiers and were advancing towards Izium, Ukrainian presidential adviser Oleksiy Arestovych said in a YouTube video. “The situation is very interesting. Ukrainian forces are moving with great success. Russia’s attempts to regain lost ground have not been successful. Ukraine may end up encircling them,” he said. To the southeast, Ukrainian forces again targeted the key Antonovskyi Bridge over the Dnipro River in an attempt to disrupt Russian supply lines. Yuriy Sobolevsky, deputy head of the Kherson regional council who was ousted by Russian occupation forces, told Telegram that the bridge had been severely damaged after “overnight actions”.
