Damian West faces charges of murder and aggravated assault after police said they were led in a chase that resulted in a fatal crash on the corner of Hempstead Highway and West Little York Road in northwest Houston. The HPD said a police officer tried to pull West around 6:10 p.m. for reckless driving, who was involved in what police call a roadblock. Authorities said West left them with a silver charger, leading them to a high-speed chase that lasted about ten minutes. According to Houston Assistant Police Chief Ban Tien, West turned on a red light at the intersection of West Little York and Hempstead, causing a collision between several vehicles. “It was so, so fast. It happened so fast and I feel the impact and my truck is going that way,” said Adan, a driver who survived the crash. Adan said he was returning home from work and waiting at the red light when he became part of a chain reaction accident that killed a man and sent a woman to the hospital in critical condition. “I feel sorry for them. I express my condolences to the families. I am quite sad,” he said. Harris County Vehicle Crime Chief Sean Tire said those involved in street acquisitions were the definition of a criminal street gang and that authorities planned to start treating them that way. “If you go further, it’s not just him, it’s the whole team he’s been in. These road acquisitions have cost a lot of lives. One more right now and possibly another,” Teare said. As Adan looked back at the scene of the crash, he said he was grateful his life had been saved. “I am quite lucky. I am so grateful to God that he gave me another chance, another opportunity to be with my daughters and sons, my wife and my parents and my whole family,” he said. Court records show that West was sentenced to $ 100 bail by the February 2021 indictment for illegal firearms in Harris County. It also came out with a guarantee of ATM bill theft from Fort Bend County, as well as drug possession from Wharton County. Teare said the serious attack charge from Friday’s accident could be upgraded to murder if the woman in critical condition does not survive her injuries.
