items seized from vehicle, including a loaded, sawed-off shotgun and an AR15-style rifle. The call was about a possible impaired driver, but Kelowna RCMP found a lot more than a driver who shouldn’t be behind the wheel. They discovered firearms, drugs, stolen property and two suspects who were prohibited from possessing firearms. On Sunday, July 31, frontline officers responded to a call at a park in the 1900 block of Pandosy and found a red Mercedes-Benz with mismatched license plates. When officers approached the vehicle, the two men inside attempted to flee but were arrested at the scene. Both men had mandatory firearms bans and one was on bail for possession of fentanyl and carrying a loaded stolen gun. He had climbed into the trunk of the car to try to hide from the police. Once officers removed him from the trunk, Mounties found several firearms in close proximity to the suspect. The other man was also on probation with the condition that he not possess any weapons. Among the weapons found in the search of the vehicle were an AR15-style rifle, a pump-action shotgun, an SKS-style semi-automatic rifle and a .30-caliber semi-automatic rifle. Replica guns and drugs, including methamphetamine and GHB, were also found, along with what appeared to be stolen property. One officer was slightly injured during the arrest and was treated in hospital and later released. Kelowna RCMP are continuing to investigate and have not announced any new charges the men may face.
