The Barons Volunteer Fire Brigade, Alta., Located about 30 minutes north of Lethbridge, covered all property on Lake Keho on the county’s north and west borders. Now that a lack of volunteers has led the Barons to disband his service, Nobleford will cover the entire territory. “I think talking to the mayor and the Barons CAO, it was a decision – a very difficult decision – but a decision that had to be made because the volunteer force was simply not there,” said Ann Mitchell. CAO of Lethbridge County. Mitchell says the county is working to “ensure a smooth transition” for the changes. “We appreciate the time and dedication of the Barons volunteer firefighters for their years of service to Lethbridge County citizens and thank Nobleford and the District Emergency Services for including the Barons area in their response zone.” The Barons and Nobleford have worked closely together over the years, with the Barons Fire Department attending a deadly fire in Nobleford in November 2019, while Nobleford fire crews helped derail a train and fire near the Barons just two months earlier.
