Ladprao 80 House is a two-story 150 square meter house owned by a newlywed couple, located in the hustle and bustle of central Bangkok, adjacent to a dense residential community and an industrial area with factories and warehouses. Due to the existing urban landscape, the architect’s main design challenge is to create a comfortable and private living space for the young couple with a limited budget of approximately 3 million Thai baht. © DOF Sky|GroundFloor Plan – First Floor© DOF Sky|Ground© DOF Sky|Ground Considering this, only half of the total area was to be built to accommodate future expansions when their family grew and needed more space. This leads to the original master plan, which is to locate the house facing the public road and leave the rear half of the plot as open lawn for recreational use or future extensions. For added privacy, a tall solid white wall securely surrounds the house. Within the walls, an open parking garage connects to the interior of the house, where it is divided into two main areas: the double-height living room to the east and the kitchen/study to the west, with a simple staircase leading up. in the bedroom and a private courtyard on the second floor. © DOF Sky|Ground In addition, wishing to use natural light and natural ventilation without sacrificing privacy, windows are opened in the semi-private areas of the house such as the living room and the kitchen. The second floor courtyard also encourages natural ventilation and light while limiting views to and from the exterior. Ladprao 80 house is, in common terms, a comfortable house that plays with density and transparency between public and private spaces. The stark contrast between the clean white geometric house and the irregularity of the surrounding urban fabric provides a backdrop for a young family starting their future together. © DOF Sky|Ground
