The first loan spell of Clarkson’s young career was a write-off, with just seven appearances made during a spell with Blackburn last time out before its premature end in January. It was a disappointing campaign for the 21-year-old, who then joined the Reds’ under-23s for the remainder. But he was given the chance to prove himself again with another loan move, this time with Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership. Liverpool have forged a positive relationship with Aberdeen this summer following talks over the £6.5m signing of Calvin Ramsey and manager Jim Goodwin will be tasked with nurturing Clarkson’s potential. “He is a ball-playing midfielder who is always available as an option for his team-mates,” Goodwin told Aberdeen’s official website. “He is brave in possession and at the right moments is willing to try the difficult pass that some midfielders don’t always have the skill or courage to attempt. “This is something we will continue to encourage. “We are very grateful to Liverpool for their help in making this loan happen and we hope they will see Aberdeen as the right club for some of their young prospects to continue their development in the future.” Clarkson followed Tyler Morton, Connor Bradley, Rhys Williams, Owen Beck, Billy Cometio and Marcelo Pitaluga in leaving the Reds on loan this summer. He is unlikely to be the last with close friend and academy teammate Jake Kane among those expected to leave before September 1.
