About 70 firefighters are battling the blaze about 10 minutes’ drive from Heathrow Airport in west London. There are fears for homes as trees, fences, bushes and decking are on fire at the back of some properties on Hereford Road in Feltham. Some locals claimed on social media that they heard an “explosion” around the area this afternoon. Footage has emerged showing huge flames raging through residents’ gardens. Forty-four panicked people called the London Fire Brigade at around 4.35pm. Historian Robert Harris saw smoke billowing from a plane as it arrived at Heathrow. Posting video online, he said: ‘Coming in for landing at Heathrow just before 5pm today. The burnt fields. An LFB spokesman said: “The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.” The Metropolitan Police are assisting and have advised people to avoid the area.
