Long-time fisheries and labor campaigner Reg Anstey has died. It was 76. Tributes to the man were posted on social media on Sunday afternoon, describing him as a caring, intelligent and good man. Anstey was most recently appointed to one of three provincially appointed seats on the Canada-Newfoundland Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (CNLOPB). He had been appointed to the board in 2020 just days after retiring as president of the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Labour. Anstey has been a mainstay in the province’s labor movement dating back to the early days of the FFAW. He also spent time with the province’s Fish Processing Licensing Board and was one of the creators of One Ocean, which looked at the gaps between the demands of fisheries and the offshore oil industry. He has also worked with many other public sector boards and commissions over the years. Funeral arrangements will be announced in the coming days.
