The shooting took place on the corner of St. Laurent. and Jean-Talon St. at 10:55 p.m., a police spokesman said.
The man’s death was later confirmed by doctors after he was taken to hospital.
There were “many witnesses” on stage, in a corner that is usually quite busy, and many different calls to 911 came. But police are still reuniting what happened, the spokesman told CTV News.
“We do not know the relationship between the victim and the suspect,” he said. “Was there a conflict? We do not know.”
Police are in the process of interviewing witnesses and should have more details later today, he said shortly after 7am.
At 11:30 a.m., spokeswoman Mariane Allaire Morin said police were now looking for several suspects, but that they had not yet made any descriptions to prevent the investigation from being derailed.
“We are not just talking about a suspect,” he said.
There are about two dozen witnesses, so it takes time to talk to everyone, he said.
The victim was known to the police.
This is a growing story that will be updated.
