At 6:45 a.m. on April 10, a man was on his way to work near East Hastings and Columbia when he was stabbed in the leg by a man holding a hypodermic needle, a press release explains. The suspect then ran south on Columbia Street after the attack. The incident is the third time since November 2021 that someone was stabbed with a needle in the DTES, said the VPD Const. Tanya Vishindin. “None of these cases are related and each one seems to have been completely random and unprovoked.” The suspect is described as white, 5’8 “and has a thin construction. He was wearing a black hood and blue jeans. “We have not been able to identify the suspect and we are asking anyone in the area who may have seen the incident to contact us,” said Officer Vissintin. Anyone with information is kindly requested to call the VPD Major Crime Unit at 604-717-2541.
